Community broadcasters provide ad-free programming from local communities as an alternative to mainstream broadcasting. In principle, they create opportunities for every member of our society to be able to go on air. Community broadcasters are nonprofit, autonomous, and ad-free media organisations. Legally they are licensed under the Private Radio Act (PrR-G) and the Audiovisual Media Services Act (AMD-G).

Community Radio and Community TV join forces in the Association of Austrian Community Broadcasters in order to better represent their interests. This interest group was founded in 1993, long before the legalisation of private broadcasting. It all began with radio.

Our greatest successes as an interest group include:
